Course Description
The future landscape of the Internet is changing at a dramatic speed, shaping our reality around new interaction concepts and ways of solving common problems. This is not something new, as the Internet always had the dual capacity of improving our life, and then making obsolete a great amount of processes, and habits. We currently use laptops and smartphones as a digital extension of the self, allowing access to a vast amount of information and systems. With the appearance of social networks, the distance between people was dramatically reduced, which had a direct impact on our relations. The next target are all the devices that surround us, or that we use, as well as the spaces and buildings.
The internet of things consists in the assimilation of everything that surrounds us, that we use, or that we do. Devices are becoming more intelligent as they become connected to management platforms. Processes rely on digital solutions, creating auditable traces that can be used to increase quality as well as optimization processes. Physical characteristics from our cars and houses are increasingly monitored, allowing to make decisions based on hard data and not extrapolations. Ultimately, all these entities can interact with each other and act in coordination, providing enhanced usability.
This course will have a full stack approach towards the concepts and technologies driving the Internet of Things, ranging from sensors to IoT platforms and APIs, not forgetting the aspects related with communications and security. All backed by professionals and academics with strong experience with these solutions and scenarios.
